Practical on Kernel Methods

The Machine Learning Summer School 2015 (MLSS2015)
13-24 July 2015, Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, Tuebingen, Germany

Getting Started

Welcome to the practical session on kernel methods at MLSS2015 in Tuebingen!

To complete the tutorial, you only need a laptop with appropriate internet browsers such as Firefox or Chrome installed. The tutorial consists of two parts.

Part I : Preparation

This part aims to provide you with the basics of kernel methods which form the backbone of all kernel-based algorithms. Prerequisites for completing this part are

  • Knowledge about elementary linear algebra
  • Familiarity with Python programming language (ipython notebook) and basic packages like numpy, scipy, and scikit-learn
During the practical session, you will receive the URL to your private ipython notebook from which you can submit your result to the competition server.

Part II : Challenge

In this part, you will be using the code developed in Part I to solve a challenging real-world problem.
